Step by step for creating a 3D printed wrench holder:
1. Design idea in notebook
2. Search google for already made designs
3. Group wrenches into four parts
4. Sketch block on inventor
5. Extrude block
6. Sketch pegs
7. Extrude pegs
8. Sketch peg stoppers
9. Extrude peg stoppers
10. Sketch french cleat
11. Extrude french cleat
12. Use filets to round edges
13. Repeat with varied dimmensions for the other three parts
14. Set up in makerbot
15. Check out print preview
16. Export to the 3D printer

Measured the wrenches and created a sketch of what I wanted the project to look like.
Set up my product in makerbot.
|
Checked google for already made designs that I could base my idea off of.
This is the working product. My first design didn't work but I modified the next one and it passed the test.
|
Grouped wrenches into four different builds that I need to create.
Used the 3D printer to create my design.
|
Inventor steps:
Edited peg dimensions and printed the other three pieces.

During this redesign unit I learned how to create something and then modify it to make it better. I struggled on the first step of the design because I didn't think of certain details but I was able to improve them, and my design ended up working much better. I have been using inventor for a while now but I learned some new features that it offered such as filets. I have also became more comfortable using the 3D printers. I found out that multiple files can be printed at the same time. Although I didn't take a picture of my first 3D printed design, I was able to make modifications to it that allowed my design to complete the task , and this is what I believe the purpose of this project was. Creating a product requires revisons in order to work successfully.
